On May 23 of the same year the Pope's illness was publicly announced, and on June 3, 1963, after 4 years six months and six days of pontificate, Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who had taken the name of John XXIII, died peacefully, invoking the name of Jesus and offering his life to realize the testament of Jesus: "let all be one" ("Ut unum sint").
After teaching us to live, he testified to us how to die in the light of faith. It was such an example of how a Christian dies who constituted, on a world level, one of the strongest spiritual experiences of the century. Grief was universal. A person who knew him and followed him in those few years summed up well the impression of all: "Pope John made me discover the paternity of God in a new and consoling way".
